Let’s Talk About the Part That Actually Worries People
Most of the hesitation we hear about Clear + Brilliant has nothing to do with whether it works. It’s the downtime question — what does my face actually look like for the days after, and will I regret booking it three days before something important.
Fair worry, and one we’d rather answer in detail than wave away with “oh it’s nothing.”
Quick refresher on what’s happening: Clear + Brilliant is a fractional laser that creates thousands of microscopic treatment zones across your skin’s surface, prompting your body to build fresh collagen and shed the dull, uneven cells sitting on top. The benefit — smoother texture, smaller pores, more even tone — shows up gradually as your skin heals. And that healing process is exactly what we’re about to walk through, day by day, so there’s nothing you’re guessing about between now and your appointment.
Short version: it’s mild, it’s temporary, and almost nobody needs to cancel plans because of it. Long version, with the actual timeline, is below.
The Day-by-Day Breakdown
Day 0 (treatment day): your skin will look flushed, like a mild sunburn, possibly with some light swelling if we treated the full face. This usually calms noticeably by evening. Skip anything with active ingredients tonight — just a gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
Days 1–2: redness and tightness continue, similar to a day-old sunburn. Fully coverable with makeup if you need to look polished for work or an event. Skin might feel a little warm to the touch.
Days 3–5: this is the stage most people aren’t warned about, so we always mention it upfront: your skin may look faintly bronzed or feel slightly rough, like fine sandpaper. That’s your skin shedding the microscopically treated zones — it’s normal, and it’s not peeling in a dramatic, flaky way. Resist the urge to pick or exfoliate it off; let it shed on its own.
Days 6–7: back to your normal texture, usually looking a bit brighter and smoother than before you started.
Week 2 and beyond: this is when the deeper changes — collagen production, more even tone — keep developing quietly in the background, even though your skin looks and feels completely normal on the surface.

Aftercare that actually matters:
- SPF every single day during recovery — new skin is more reactive to sun, and skipping this undoes real progress
- Gentle cleanser, no exfoliating acids or retinoids for about 3–5 days
- LED post-care (included with every session) to calm inflammation and support healing
- Avoid the urge to touch or pick, even when it feels itchy or rough
Most people plan their sessions for a Thursday or Friday if they want the redness to settle over a weekend, though it’s genuinely mild enough that plenty of clients book on a random Tuesday and go straight back to work.
What Happens Before the Downtime Even Starts
The appointment itself is about 30 minutes, most of it numbing cream sitting on your skin for 20–30 minutes first. Once we begin, the laser passes over your skin in a grid, and most people describe the sensation as a warm, prickly snap — mild to moderate, over quickly, and rated “very tolerable” by most first-timers.
This treatment works for a wide range of people — nearly all skin tones and types, ages 20s through 60s, anyone dealing with dullness, enlarged pores, mild sun damage, or rough post-breakout texture. It’s less suited to deep scarring or significant wrinkles, where we’d usually recommend pairing it with something else or choosing a different treatment altogether.
A single session is $599; a package of four (what most treatment plans are built around) is $1,999, including LED post-care with the option to add Glacial Glide cooling for extra comfort. Most people need 4 to 6 sessions, spaced three to four weeks apart, to see the change they actually came in for.
The Questions We Get Before Every Appointment
Does it hurt? Most people rate it mild to moderate — more of a warm snapping sensation than sharp pain — and numbing cream keeps it manageable throughout.
When can I wear makeup again? Same day if you need to, though we’d suggest waiting a few hours right after treatment. Through the redness and flaking days, makeup is generally fine.
How many sessions will I actually need? Most treatment plans run 4 to 6 sessions, spaced about three to four weeks apart.
Is it worth it? For dullness, texture, pores, and early sun damage — yes, for most people, especially given how little downtime it asks for in return.
What should I expect at my appointment? A quick skin check, numbing time, roughly 5–10 minutes of actual laser treatment, and a full aftercare rundown before you leave — including exactly what today’s timeline (above) means for your specific skin.
Can I work out or go swimming right after? We’d suggest skipping intense sweating or pool/ocean time for about 24 hours, since it can irritate freshly treated skin.
